Top 5 birth chart aspects for financial luck

An aspect, in the older practice, is a planet standing in a sign that is configured to another sign. Signs of the same element are in trine. Signs four apart are in square. Signs six apart are in opposition. Signs two apart are in sextile. A conjunction is two planets in the same sign. Dorotheus counts the opposition, the square, and the trine when he judges fortune. Later authors also ask for the degrees to be close. William Lilly, judging a question about riches, names the conjunction, the sextile, and the trine as the friendly ones, and he still counts a square or an opposition when the two planets receive each other. A trine floating in the chart, with neither planet ruling substance, is an aspect about some other topic.

The Lot of Fortune is measured from the ascendant. Dorotheus and Valens reverse the formula at night. By day it is ascendant plus Moon minus Sun. By night it is ascendant plus Sun minus Moon. Ptolemy uses ascendant plus Moon minus Sun for both day and night. Subtract 360° if the sum runs past a full circle. The sign you land in is Fortune's sign, and its ruler is the planet his chapter on material fortune judges. If you switch the night formula, the ruler can change, and the testimonies below are read from the ruler you actually have.

A day birth is a birth between sunrise and sunset. Jupiter is the benefic of a day chart. Venus is the benefic of a night chart. Planets of the same sect as the rulers, testifying to them, are the ones Ptolemy ties to keeping what was gained.

1. Planets of the same sect aspecting the rulers of the Lot of Fortune

Ptolemy, in Tetrabiblos IV.2, takes material acquisitions from the Lot of Fortune alone. He tells you to judge the lords of Fortune's sign by their power and their familiarity, then the planets in aspect with those lords, and the planets of the same sect or the opposite sect that overcome them. When the planets that govern Fortune are in power, he says they make the native rich, particularly when the Sun or the Moon also testifies.

The kind of wealth follows the planet that governs. Saturn through building, agriculture, or shipping. Jupiter through offices of trust, guardianship, or priesthood. Mars through military command. Venus through gifts of friends or of women. Mercury through eloquence and trade. Planets of the same sect as those rulers, also witnessing the rulership, are the condition he gives for keeping the possessions.

In the chart this is the ruler of Fortune's sign made strong, by sign and by house, and a planet of its sect in aspect to it, with the Sun or the Moon in aspect as well. Fortune itself casts no aspect. Lilly is explicit that the Part emits no rays. Planets aspect Fortune. Fortune does not aspect them.

2. The triplicity lord of the sect light in aspect to the Moon

Dorotheus says the best thing for fortune is that the lord of the triplicity of the luminary be in a good place with the Moon, or in opposition, square, or trine to it. By day the luminary is the Sun. By night it is the Moon. The triplicity lords below are his.

Ptolemy's triplicity lords are a different table. This one is Dorotheus. Find the sign of the Sun in a day chart, or of the Moon in a night chart. Take that element's lord for the sect of the birth. That planet in an angle or a succedent house, and in opposition, square, or trine to the Moon, is the testimony he ranks first. He also wants it free of being under the Sun's rays and free of retrogradation when you are judging it as a benefic in its own dignity. If it misses the Moon and still aspects the ascendant, he calls the livelihood middling, good and evil mixed.

3. The lord of the second aspecting the lord of the ascendant

The second house is the sign after the ascendant in whole signs. Dorotheus calls it the house of property. He tells you to look at the lord of the ascendant, the lord of the midheaven, and the lord of this second sign together. When they are with benefics, and they sit in angles or in the houses that follow the angles, he says to predict fortune, eminence, and a good livelihood. When some of them are well placed and some are not, the livelihood is middling. Lilly's strongest natal and horary form of the same idea is the lord of the ascendant joined to the lord of the second, or those two in sextile or trine. A conjunction of the lord of the first, the lord of the second, and Jupiter, in the first, second, tenth, seventh, fourth, or eleventh, is the testimony he calls the most assured on a question of riches. Square or opposition between them still thrives if there is mutual reception, and the estate arrives with labor.

Jupiter placed in a sign Venus rules is a further statement from Dorotheus, a placement rather than a sixth aspect. In Taurus or Libra he gives Jupiter livelihood from nobles, and in some charts goods that come through a woman.

4. Jupiter or Venus in conjunction, sextile, or trine with the Lot of Fortune

Lilly, answering whether a person shall be rich, names Jupiter or Venus casting a trine or a sextile, or standing in conjunction with the Part of Fortune. He also counts either of them in the second house when no malefic aspects them. This is the practical form of the benefic testimony Ptolemy describes more generally as planets configured with the lords of Fortune.

The sect decides which benefic carries more weight. Jupiter in a day chart, Venus in a night chart. A night-chart Venus in trine to Fortune is the benefic of the sect doing the work. A day-chart Venus in that same trine is still a benefic, and she is not the sect benefic. The aspect wants a planet that can act: in its own sign or exaltation, direct, and not under the Sun's beams, which is the standard Dorotheus uses when he praises a benefic.

5. Saturn aspecting Jupiter, for inheritance

This is the one configuration Ptolemy spells out as a particular kind of wealth, and it is narrow. When Saturn is the planet associated with material fortune, his aspect to Jupiter signifies inheritances. He wants that configuration on the upper angles. He wants Jupiter in a bicorporeal sign, which means Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces. He wants the Moon applying to Jupiter. Under those conditions he says the native is adopted and inherits the goods of people he was not born to.

Saturn governing Fortune still has a substance of his own without that aspect. Ptolemy gives him building, agriculture, and shipping. The aspect to Jupiter is the inheritance clause, not a general charm for cash. Jupiter's own route, when he governs Fortune, is trust, office, and priesthood. Venus's is gifts. Mercury's is trade. Reading every Saturn-Jupiter trine in every chart as an inheritance is larger than the chapter.

When the same chapters show the money leaving

Ptolemy says that planets of the opposite sect, overcoming the governing places or rising after them, bring loss of the possessions. The time is read from those planets approaching the angles and the succedent houses. Dorotheus says that if the lords of the ascendant, the midheaven, and the second are all cadent, you then look at the lords of the seventh, the eighth, the eleventh, the fifth, and the fourth. He calls the eleventh the sign of fortune. If those lords are also cadent, and they do not aspect the Moon by night or the Sun by day, the native is in want of nourishment, and a malefic on an angle makes it worse.

The eleventh-house lord aspecting the sect light is part of that second look. It is gains and gifts. It does not replace a second house whose lord is cadent and unassisted.

The next skill

A birth aspect shows the capacity. The year it becomes obvious is a profection. Count one sign a year from the ascendant, starting at birth. The ruler of the sign you reach is the lord of that year. When the year falls in the second sign, or in the sign of Fortune, the testimonies above have a year to act in. When the year lord is the same planet that rules Fortune, the chapter Ptolemy wrote and the year you are in are the same planet.
